Moments of Monuments

The first issue of 'H' can be read under the headline of 'Moments of Monuments'. Our society is daily overwhelmed by historical moments and events that apparently beg for eternity. From the 11 september catastrophy in New York and the extension of the European community over the war in Iraq, historical moments (and persons) feel the necessity to materialize events for eternity in forms of sculptures, monuments, bustes and these like. Since the ara pacis in Rome cities form the excellent scenery for fulfilling this need. Or in other moments nature (mountains, rivers, woods,...) are appropriated as symbolic monuments. The paradox about monuments is that too often the only thing which is indeed eternal about them is that individuals forget what they have been made for. This aberrant reception and existence of monuments (and monumental thinking) will be among others the framework for 'H1'. The following authors participate: Erick Beltran (Amsterdam), Inga Beyer (Hamburg), Franz Blei (Wienna), Daniel Blochwitz (New York), Dew Bondage (Sidney), Sebastian Hackenschmidt (Hamburg), Christian Jaramillo (Santiago de Chile), Mario Navarro (Santiago de Chile), Lucia Egaja Rojas (Santiago de Chile), Martha Rosler (New York), Tanja Schwarz (Hamburg) Marc Wortmann (Hamburg),...
